Rains play havoc in North India, 33 dead in Rajasthan

After a brief respite, it was raining heavily again on Monday in Jaipur. Many streets in the low-lying parts of the city were waterlogged. In all, 12 districts including Bharatpur, Dholpur and Dausa have been affected. Three more people have died in rain-related incidents, taking the toll to 33 in one week.

The Met Department has said more rainfall is expected over the next three days. Meanwhile, the Army has been roped in for relief operations.

There were similar scenes in Uttarakhand and Western Uttar Pradesh. The Met department has sounded an alert. Incessant rainfall over the past few days has caused water levels in the Ganga and other rivers to rise to the danger mark. Authorities are monitoring the situation.

In Jammu, three people were swept away in the flash floods triggered by heavy rains. Several inter-district roads in the state have been blocked for vehicular traffic due to the landslides triggered by the downpour. Two others have died in Himachal Pradesh.

Heavy rainfall in Delhi has caused the water level in the Yamuna river to rise steadily and touch the danger mark. There is no reason to panic and no evacuations have been ordered as yet. Authorities are monitoring the situation.
