After savagely beating up students, Don Bosco vice-principal not sacked, just transferred

The vice-principal of Don Bosco School Bandel accused of severely beating up seven students on Teachers Day and injuring them was transferred from the school with immediate effect today.

School sources said the transfer of Subir Mondal, a Catholic priest, is effective from September 6. However, nothing is known about where he was being transferred to.

The sources said the decision on the transfer was taken by the Salesian’s Provincial House in Kolkata which overseas working of Don Bosco schools in the eastern region.

“School principal Father K Mathew read out the letter from the Provincial’s office on the transfer to students and teachers,” the sources said adding that the authorities termed the incident ‘unfortunate’.

Representatives of the Provincial House had visited the school yesterday to take stock of the situation.

On September 5 Mondal had snatched away foam spray cans from the seven standard four students and beat them up with a cane when he found them playing while decorating their class room for the Teachers Day celebration, the police said.

He was arrested by the police following a compliant from the parents of one of the assaulted students. Yesterday he was produced before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Chuchura, Manjushree Mondal who remanded him to seven days jail custody.
