Goa Elections 2012: BJP

The counting of vote for Goa’s 40 seats, in two centres in Margao and Panaji. The official said that a workforce of nearly 1,000 personnel was engaged in the counting exercise. BJP was leading in ninteen seats while its alliance partner MGP was ahead in one.

Joint Chief Electoral Officer N S Navti said “Both counting centres are being manned by an adequate force of security personnel to ensure that nothing untoward happens.”

A total of 215 candidates, including nine women and 74 independents, are contesting for 23 seats in north Goa and 17 in south Goa district.

The Congress party were former vice president of BCCI, Dayanand Narvekar, power minister, Aleixo Sequeira and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president, Subhash Shirodkar.

The main contest is between the ruling Congress-Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP)-Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party combine.
Among the big winners is Mickey Pacheco of the Goa Vikas Party (GVP) who defeated Sequeira in Nuvem constituency. Rebel Congress candidate Vijay Sardesai (Independent) defeated his BJP rival and sitting MLA, Damu Naik and Congress nominee, M K Shaikh in Fatorda constituency.

Anant Shet of the BJP won in Mayem defeating Rudresh Chodankar of the NCP and Independent Praveen Zantye.

BJP sitting MLA Damodar Naik is facing tough fight in Fatorda from independent Vijay Sardessai, who is leading by 996 votes.

The Congress lost out in eight constituencies while BJP gained new seats in Calangute, Sanvordem, Cuncolim, Tivim, Aldona and Curchorem but lost in Fatorda.

The BJP winning 1 seats and leading in 18 others, while the Congress won 8 and leading 1 and the others won 10.
