The 26-year-old from Majorca added another dramatic chapter to the storybook of his clay-court mastery.The 6-4, 6-3, 2-6, 7-5 victory over the world No. 1, the record seventh French Open title, was completed with 49 determined minutes of play Monday afternoon.

Rafael Nadal played just as he played on sunday.He created the history by defeating the world’s top-ranked tennis player Novak Djokovic .serving powerfully, wiping off the baseline with his aggressive court position. Djokovic came out just as he did Sunday – agitated and seemingly full of nerves.

Nadal now has won 11 major singles titles, tying him with Borg and Laver. Only Roger Federer of Switzerland (16), Pete Sampras of the U.S. (14) and Roy Emerson of Australia (12) have won more. It also was Nadal’s first major championship since he tied Borg with six titles in Paris last year. Djokovic has won five Grand Slam titles.

“I was very nervous during all the night,” Nadal said at a news conference, the Coupe des Mousquetaires winner’s trophy by his side. “I was a little bit anxious to play what remains of the match.”

The 25-year-old Djokovic agreed.“He’s definitely best player in history on this surface, and results are showing that he’s one of the best ever players that played this game,” Djokovic said.
