Nokia unveils two new mid-range phones – Asha 308, Asha 309

 

Struggling cellphone maker Nokia unveiled on Tuesday two new touch-screen cellphone models to strengthen its offering for the mass market.

Nokia said it expects the Nokia Asha 308 and the Nokia Asha 309 to retail for about $99, excluding taxes and subsidies, with deliveries to start in the fourth quarter of 2012.

The Nokia Asha 308 is a dual SIM phone and has a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen with a resolution of 400×240 pixels. It sports a 2 megapixel rear camera, but it has no flash. It has an internal memory of 64 MB. The phone features up to 32GB microSD card support. The phone will come in the Black and the Golden Light colour.

The Nokia Asha 309 is the single SIM variant with WiFi. It also has a 3-inch capacitive touchscreen. The Nokia Asha 309 also has an internal memory of 64 MB, which is expandable up to 32GB using a microSD card. The Asha 309 also has a 2 megapixel camera.

Both phones run Nokia OS, and come packed with a 1110 mAh battery. The Nokia Asha 308 and Nokia Asha 309 are said to be Nokia’s most affordable capacitive touchscreen devices to date.

Nokia also released a new version of Nokia Xpress Browser, which is claimed to enable up to 90 per cent more efficient mobile browsing and faster access to web applications compared to conventional browsers.
