Kolkata: Rally against ‘anti-Islam’ film turns violent
Islam’ film turned violent as protesters tried to break through police barricades and enter the American Centre.
The police, however, managed to pacify the crowd and bring them under control, thus preventing any untoward incident, said sources.
The film, ‘Innocence of Muslims’, by US director Sam Bacile, has led to violent protests worldwide, including demonstrations in Chennai and Jammu and Kashmir in India.
The film reportedly mocks Prophet Mohammad.
Muslim groups in India have called for a ban on the film, with one such group filing a PIL with the Bombay High Court.
The Kashmir valley was rocked by protests a week ago as demonstrators led by Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman Mohammad Yasin Malik took to the streets, leading to clashes with the police.
The film triggered violent clashes in Libya where the US ambassador was killed in an attack on the US embassy in Benghazi.
