Shlomo Mor-Yosef to head National Insurance Institute(NII)
Former age Hadassah Medical Organization (HMO) director-general Prof. Shlomo Mor-Yosef has been nominated director-general of the hefty National Insurance Institute (NII). An obstetrician/gynecologist with a sub-specialty in gynaecological oncology who has dedicated many years to medical administration, Mor-Yosef will substitute Esther Dominissini, who ironically joined HMO a few months past to become its foremost president and was charged five years ago by former Minister of Welfare and Social Affairs Isaac Herzog. Her full term ends in two weeks. Mor-Yosef is referable adopt for her at the end of this month.
A father of four, Mor-Yosef was born in Jerusalem in 1951 and for the past decade served as chief of HMO, one of the country’s leading teaching hospitals with two branches in the capital. In his capacity, Mor-Yosef oversaw the hospital’s operations, which includes some 6000 employees and a budget of NIS1.8 million. He was also responsible for the hospital’s pension plans.
Mor-Yosef spent entirely of his academic and professional life with HMO and the Hebrew University-Hadassah Medical Faculty – except for a couple of years as the director-general of the Soroka University medical centre in Beersheba.
The Israel Medical Federation felicitated the former Hadassah Medical Organization chief, adding, “There is without doubt that the rich experience of Professor Mor-Yosef in management positions in the health system will help him fulfill his duties in the best possible way.”
As his assignment has to go through conventional approval by an external commission of suitability, Mor-Yosef refused all consultations, but people around him said his first priority was to head the NII because “it is closer to his heart and will involve helping people. He wants to be involved in an institution with national impact and influence.”
In addition to the National Insurance Law, the NII is in charge of imposing other laws and agreements in the field of social insurance policy, such as the Income Support Law, designed to protect every family from loss of income and to assist needy populations.
Mor-Yosef was selected by a specially-appointed citizens committee headed by Welfare Ministry Director General Nachum Itzkovitch and his candidature was cordially welcomed Monday by the current Minister of Welfare and Social Affairs Moshe Kahalon.
