IIT Fee Hiked Rs 50,000 to Rs 90,000 For Undergraduates

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Councilon Monday gave a go-ahead to the proposed hike in the tuition fee for undergraduate students. With the go-ahead to the proposal, the fee will be hiked from Rs 50,000 to Rs 90,000 per year from 2013.

The announcement was made by Union Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister MM Pallam Raju on Monday.

Notably, the Kakodkar Committee had in 2011 recommended a steep hike of Rs 2-2.5 lakh per annum from the existing Rs 50,000. The Kakodkar Committee constituted by the Council of IITs had suggested the four-fold increase in tuition fee to help IITs attain financial independence.
