Windows XP still the world’s top operating system
Over a decade since it was released, Windows XP is still the world’s most popular operating system on desktop and laptop
computers. But according to Net Applications, for the first time in years, it powers less than half the world’s computers.
XP’s share of the global market has dropped to 46.5 percent, far ahead of Microsoft’s current OS, Windows 7, and 2006’s
much-maligned Windows Vista.Windows 7 has 37 percent of the market, Vista 8.4 percent, Mac OS 5.1 percent and other operating systems – presumably flavours of Linux – make up the remaining 3 percent. It is expected that Microsoft will release its next OS, Windows 8, later this year.Support for XP will end in 2014.
