Water level in Narmada Dam touches 7-year high

 

Villagers of the Bharuch district were on Thursday evacuated after the water level in the nearby Narmada Dam touched a seven-year high to reach 128.9 meters. The authorities say they will be releasing the water from the dam soon.

Experts say that the reason for the rise in water levels in the dam was due to excessive water from Indira Sagar Dam in Madhya Pradesh and heavy rainfall in catchment areas between Indirasagar and the Narmada Dam.

Meanwhile in Surat, the low-lying areas are flooded after water level in the Tapi rose after incessant rainfall.

Vehicles remained stuck in several areas, leaving traffic on the roads paralysed.

While authorities say there is no need to worry, rescue boats have been kept on the stand-by.
